“Softness triumphs over hardness, gentleness over strength.” Lao-tzu |
Vinyasa-Yin Flow ClassesThese classes are a dynamic combination of flowing active sequences - which build strength & muscular flexibility; and passive longer-held poses - that work on connective tissue & range of movement in the joints. Although these are ongoing classes, beginners are welcome as each class is progressive and non-competitive, so you'll always work at your own pace. Like any other form of new exercise it is advisable to check with your doctor first, particularly if you haven't exercised for some time or are recovering from injury. Certain yoga postures are contraindicated for some medical conditions, so please inform the teacher in advance if you suffer from conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, a detached retina or heart problem. This phrase is now used to describe a fluid method of sequencing yoga poses together, synchronised with smooth and full breathing. Unlike some other forms of yoga, classes can vary in format depending on the theme chosen by the teacher. While being a challenging physical practice, vinyasa yoga's particular strength is in encouraging greater breath and internal awareness. As we become more accomplished at aligning our breathing pattern to the way we move, we develop a deeper understanding of the link between our internal energy and the actions of our physical body. "Yin" is a Chinese term which describes the hidden, stable, unmoving nature of things. In a yin practice poses are floor-based and mainly target hips & lower-back with passive long-held postures. These postures are held for between 1 and 5 minutes - encouraging our body to open and giving us quiet moments for inner reflection. Click for timetable |
